Narrative
Bringing
the narrative story to life with light and lens is one
of Jake's most fulfilling experiences as a cinematographer. He
really enjoys lighting a fictional scene because it requires so
much creativity and discipline. Lighting should set the mood,
augment the story, it should be clever and creative, but not at
all disctracting. It can be a fine line and a great challenge,
one that Jake enjoys quite a bit.
Jake
also has a good grasp of the technical necessities of telling
a story.
He's edited throughout his career and that experience has made
him a much better cameraman. While in the moment shooting a scene,
he's also keeping in mind the story and editorial necessities;
he understands how the pictures will come together. This depth
of understanding makes for a very collaborative relationship with
the director.
In addition to story telling and lighting, Jake is developing
a great
interest in special effects work and specialty shooting for
narrative projects. He has done an extensive amount of green screen
work, mostly on commercial projects.
